About a raindrops' journey and Air there and every where..

Its week 3 of the colour tree workshop and my lovely friends are here..
11 of them..

We all belt up.. to read about a journey .. a raindrops' journey.. from the clouds to a leaf on a  mountain top.. through a stream..with fishes..a graceful deer , a hungry black bear,  drifting on a river withsome eager beavers, on to the sea with otters and seals for company and finally to the ocean.. so soothing and snug to its brand new home as safe as a hug..

Then a beautiful tale from a wise old cloud floating in blue blue sky.. a tale about their home..Air..A tale
about Air..there and every where..

We all then painted a picture of a pouring day and made an origami pinwheel to flutter on an airy, breezy day!

Little miss wise owl!

Yeah, thats D!

Dressed for a school theme event..She had to dress up as a bird..

When i was thinking up on her costume, i very quickly zeroed in on the owl!

The Owl.. its very close to my heart.. Its' wise.. talks less, listens more..and an owl is also goddess lakshmis' mount..

I had a very curious run in with a couple of them a long while back..i was home alone for about 10 days cramming for an exam.. i would study in my room..would need to cross the dining room to enter the kitchen , where i would fix up frequent meals!

the dining room window overlooked an underconstruction site .. this was home to a couple of owls.. who would show up each night..very eerie.. their gaze would be fixed on our window and each time i had to cross the dining room.. i would need to psych myself up.. they would do this head twirl thing for added scare.. !

Phew , it took me a couple of days to get used to them .. their presence and eerie hoots.. finally i decided i could nt handle it any more and just shut the windows..when they decided to move right outside my study room window!

i somehow sailed through those 10 days , till my parents returned..guess what?... i passed that exam..and i belieive those owls were there to give me company!!

Space Odyssey and beginning of life

19th February.. The second colour tree workshop ..

We made a trip into outer space, read about the evolution of the  universe and understood why our planet is most unique and how we need to care for the  planet..

Also read out a charming aboriginal tale on the beginning of life on earth..A story about the rainbow serpent being the mother of life on earth..How she created the landforms , woke up all the other creatures and brought water for the planet..

"I love my earth" book marks and a  rainbow water colour painting for the craft time....colours at play!

Elephant god and Happy Prince..

Its the 12th of February....and 6 kids show up for the first colour tree workshop.. 5 girls and a boy..and are they a bright lot?

The first story is " How Ganesha got his elephant head?"Heres' to auspicious beginnings.. as i started narrating the story ..parvati wanting her own soldier as Shivas' soldiers or ganas would not obey her..She creating a boy out of sandal wood paste..The girls gang wanted to know why she did not create a girl???!

Its Clay time folks.. ganesha modelled out of potters clay and finger painted..

Working with hands and heart??!

Then read out Oscar Wildes' Happy Prince..a story i read as a kid ..A tale about love and compassion..All of us then fashioned origami hearts and stuck it in a card with  messages for the parents..Gods best gift to us ..!




The Story magic has well and truly begun..!!

Colour tree takes root..

The Flyer is out announcing the first colour tree workshop for kids ..

Stories, colours and craft....over 4 weekends.12th,19th,26th Feb and 5th March...

The first leaf on the colour tree logo is  red in colour and shaped like a  heart.. a simple co-incidence or a divine design ? Excited...:-)
